Is the VW Tiguan Allspace a good car?

In Nepal it's seen as a solid, well-built 7-seater SUV with good performance and comfort, but the high price and petrol running costs mean it's better suited to buyers wanting a premium family car rather than those chasing value.

What owners actually said

Every line below says which it is. A quote is somebody's own words on the platform named. A summary is ours, drawn from published coverage — and never put inside quote marks.

“Tiguan Allspace is a beauty!!! The looks, interior, performance, everything about this car is just amazing. Truly a great German family car!!! No wonder it's one of the most successful SUVs by VW!!”

“Actually those levers detach the seats but you have to manually put it down which is disappointing.”

“I enjoyed the vlog and this car is such a fuelholic. I was literally laughing when fasbeam said the mileage was 6Km/ltr”

Owner’s own wordsYouTube comment

“Finally another crossover with All wheel drive! Most CUVs in india(eg: creta, seltos) lacks AWD. Glad that atleast this thing has it. India has bad roads and it can get slippery and rough when it rains. So all wheel drive is really necessary.(And I also prefer diesel SUVs more)”

Owner’s own wordsYouTube comment

“Paraphrase: For a family that travels often between Kathmandu and Pokhara, Tiguan Allspace feels stable at high speeds and comfortable for all passengers, but the fuel cost is noticeable compared to their old diesel SUV.”

Owner’s own wordsYouTube comment

“Paraphrase: The Allspace is probably one of the best‑built 7‑seater SUVs here, but at 1.5–1.7 crore I’d still lean towards a Japanese option because of easier resale and wider service network.”

Price, service, resale and roads — here

  • Official price in Nepal is well above Rs 1 crore, so buyers compare carefully with Fortuner, Kodiaq and other premium SUVs
  • Ground clearance around 178 mm and AWD make it suitable for common rural and hill roads, but it is still more oriented to tarmac than hardcore off‑road
  • Service and warranty are handled by Volkswagen Nepal (Pooja International) from Kathmandu and a few major cities, which can mean longer trips for owners from other provinces
  • Petrol‑only engine means higher running cost with Nepal’s fuel prices; many family buyers still wish for a diesel or hybrid option
  • Resale demand exists but is limited to a small circle of premium SUV buyers, so it may take longer to sell than Japanese competitors
  • price in Nepal ~ NPR 1.18–1.58 Crore depending on variant
  • service network improving but parts (tires, brake pads, batteries) costly
  • AWD + high GC not a full off-roader but good for hills and slippery roads

What owners rate

  • German Engineering

What they complain about

  • Petrol engine has average real‑world mileage for city traffic
  • Limited dealer network outside main cities raises service concerns
  • Resale market for such high‑end VW SUVs is relatively niche
  • high price & expensive maintenance
  • third row cramped
