Hero MotoCorp planning new 150–350cc premium bikes for FY 2026–27

Hero to strengthen presence in 150–350cc premium segment

Hero MotoCorp, the world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, has lined up a major push into the 150–350cc premium motorcycle category for the financial year 2026–27. According to the company’s latest annual report, new models are planned under both the Hero MotoCorp and Harley-Davidson brands, aimed at riders who want more performance and features than entry-level commuter bikes.

The plan centres on what Hero calls the "premium sweet spot" between 150cc and 350cc. In this band, buyers typically get stronger engines, modern technology and sharper styling, while keeping prices more accessible than high-capacity big bikes. For Nepali riders, this is the same segment that includes popular models like the Hero Xtreme 160R 4V, Karizma XMR and other mid-capacity street and touring bikes currently sold in India and brought in through dealers.

Why Hero is targeting 150–350cc

According to Hero’s annual report and recent media coverage, the premium motorcycle market is growing faster than the overall two-wheeler market, driven by changing rider preferences and tax rules in India. After GST rate changes in late 2025, the sub-350cc category has become more attractive for manufacturers and has reportedly seen annual growth around 18% in FY 2026–27.

Motorcycles above 350cc sit in higher tax slabs, which slows down demand growth. Many customers who might have looked at larger bikes are now choosing well-equipped 150–350cc machines instead. These still offer highway-capable performance, ABS, digital displays and other premium features at more manageable prices.

What it could mean for Nepal

Hero has not yet revealed specific model names, specifications or launch dates for these upcoming premium bikes. Media reports based on the company’s FY 2026 annual report indicate that multiple new motorcycles are planned, but details such as engine capacities, body styles and exact timelines are still under wraps and may be disclosed closer to launch. Any mention of future models is therefore according to the company’s announcement, not yet officially confirmed for individual products.

For Nepal, Hero’s stronger focus on the 150–350cc band matters. Nepali buyers in urban areas increasingly look for bikes that can handle both city traffic and weekend highway rides, with better comfort and performance than 125cc commuters but still within realistic budgets. Once these new Hero and Harley-Davidson-branded models launch in India, they are likely to reach authorized dealers in Nepal after a short lag. Final Nepal prices in NPR will depend on local taxes, transport and dealer margins.

At present, mid-capacity Hero bikes in India such as Xtreme 160R 4V and Karizma XMR are priced roughly between Rs 1.3–1.9 lakh ex-showroom there. For Nepali customers, similar future products could arrive at higher on-road prices because of customs and registration costs. They will still be positioned to compete with established rivals from Bajaj, TVS, Yamaha and Royal Enfield.

For now, Hero’s announcement shows that the company sees long-term opportunity in the 150–350cc class. Nepali riders planning an upgrade from 125cc commuters may want to watch how Hero’s premium lineup develops over the next one to two years. It could bring more choice in sporty street bikes and tourers suited to our roads.
