Nepali buyers with about Rs 40,000 monthly income can still think about a small car if the budget stays tight and the loan plan works.

The report says cars priced below Rs 23 lakh can be financed with a 50% down payment and the rest repaid over 7 years at about 11% interest.

- Hyundai Santro Era — listed at Rs 23.96 lakh. The report says a revised calculation at Rs 22.96 lakh would mean a Rs 11.48 lakh down payment and a monthly installment of Rs 19,656. - **Renault Kwid — three variants are priced between Rs 21.96 lakh and Rs 22.73 lakh. The report says buyers can pay about Rs 19,000 per month. - Datsun Redi-Go — the 0.8-litre version costs Rs 19.99 lakh and the 1.0-litre version costs Rs 21.99 lakh. The 1.0-litre model comes to around Rs 19,000 a month. - Maruti Suzuki Alto — priced from Rs 18.99 lakh to Rs 22.99 lakh. Monthly installments are estimated at Rs 17,000 to Rs 19,000**.

The piece also says Nepal’s heavy taxes and the central bank’s lending cap have made vehicle buying more difficult.
