Nepal motor insurance rates FY 2083/84 — set by the NIA tariff, identical at every insurer
The NIA fixed tariff (unchanged for FY 2083/84) makes third-party bike insurance रु 1,705 per year for below 150 cc, रु 1,931 per year for 150 – 249 cc, रु 2,157 per year for 250 cc and above — VAT and stamp duty included, identical at every licensed insurer.
For private cars, jeeps and vans the fixed annual third-party premium is रु 7,355 for below 1000 cc, रु 8,485 for 1000 – 1600 cc, रु 10,745 for above 1600 cc — VAT and stamp included, the same at all 14 licensed non-life insurers.
Third-party (compulsory) insurance for a scooter or bike under 150cc costs about रु 1,705 per year. A comprehensive (full) policy costs roughly 1.5% of your bike's value per year on top — use the calculator on this page for your exact figure.
Yes — motor premiums are set by the Nepal Insurance Authority's tariff directive, so every licensed insurer charges the same price for the same cover. Compare insurers on claim-settlement record and service instead; this page lists each insurer's motor claims-paid ratio.
Third-party is the legal minimum: it covers death, injury and property damage you cause to others, plus driver/passenger accident cover — it pays nothing for damage to your own vehicle. Comprehensive adds own-damage cover (accident, fire, theft) for about 1.5% of the vehicle's declared value per year before discounts.
Yes. Valid third-party insurance is mandatory for bluebook (vehicle registration) renewal — the Transport Management Office checks it when you pay your annual vehicle tax. Expired insurance is the most common reason a renewal gets bounced.
Electric two-wheelers pay the same fixed third-party premiums as petrol bikes (रु 1,705–रु 2,157 by power band). Electric cars pay रु 7,355 (up to 50 kw) or रु 8,485 (above 50 kw) per year.
Yes — most large insurers issue motor policies digitally, and you can start a renewal or new policy right on this site: upload your bluebook and old policy, and licensed insurers provide quotes. See the insurance renewal page.
